What started as an early morning call for a brush fire has now become a homicide investigation.
This after a burned body was found on a Cambria County road
Just before 2:30 this morning, officials with the West Hills Police Department say that the fire department was dispatched for a brush fire along route 56, near the Cambria and Westmoreland County Line.
However, when the fire was discovered on the other side of the guardrail, officials say they found it to be more than a brush fire.
They located a person’s body being consumed by flames.
District Attorney Greg Neugebauer says that the death is highly suspicious. He adds that while the victim has not yet been identified, it is a white male in his 40s that’s around 170 pounds with dark hair.
He says that several methods to identify the body were attempted, but none of them have been successful so far. The man was pronounced dead by county coroner Jeff Lees at 3:25 am, and the death is being ruled a Homicide.
“We are treating this as a crime scene and we would be very, very surprised if it turned out not to be a crime. Based on all the information that we have and based on the information that we have, this does appear to be a targeted incident. We don’t believe there’s any danger to the general public.”
Officials say that more details will likely be revealed Tomorrow. And they say if you have any information or saw vehicles near Haws Pike early this morning, contact the
