Johnstown Inclined Plane Construction Resumes

After pausing for over a year, construction at the Johnstown Inclined Plane has finally resumed.

Officials with CamTran say that last November, contractors discovered cracks in several cable strands, as well as wheels that did not meet “design specifications” after conducting an investigation on the inclined plane.

They say this forced crews to spend several months working on a safe solution for approaching the repairs.

On Monday, construction crews were seen back at the Inclined Plane, where they resumed their work.

Officials with several organizations that are funding the project like the 1889 Foundation and the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies say that they’re looking forward to the project’s completion.

“Obviously it’s been a little bit of a wait, but it’s important that the investigation happened and that everybody can move forward safely with this project. I mean, what’s more iconic in Johnstown than the Inclined Plane?”

Officials say that the rest of the construction will most likely be finished by the end of next year.
