Central Pa Humane Society Seeking Funding For Dog ( Cherry ) Operation

We have an update tonight on the story of Cherry the dog that was caught on camera being thrown over the fence of the Central Pa Humane Society.

Reporter Baylee Wojcik spoke with officials at the shelter today who tell her Cherry is going to need surgery

Officials with the Central Pa Humane Society say that after an xray, they’ve discovered that Cherry’s hard landing onto concrete dislocated her hip, causing her intense pain.

They say that Cherry is now going to need surgery with a long road to recovery.

This is Cherry the Pitbull. Right now, she’s enjoying a life of treats, walks, and love at the Central Pa Humane Society. But it didn’t start that way.

Just over a week ago, A now viral video was shared of Cherry being tossed over the shelter fence, left to spend the night outside, afraid, and alone. While she’s doing much better now, shelter officials say she’s still reeling
from that night.

“She does have a dislocated hip and they are believing that is from her being tossed over the fence”

“She’s in great pain from it. She’s still getting around pretty good but you can tell that it’s bothering her. The only way to fix that is to go in through surgery.”

Hannah Plummer with the Central Pa Humane Society says that the surgery to repair Cherry’s hip could run between $4,000-$6000. She says the shelter is currently raising money to pay for the procedure, which will then be followed
by a long recovery period. Luckily, Plummer says an interested foster home has already reached out to help.

“We have hopefully gotten a good foster for her that’s going to help her with that recovery because she’s not going to be able to recover here. She’s going to need 24/7 care and somebody to watch make sure she’s recovering well”

Plummer says that criminal charges against the person who allegedly threw Cherry over the fence will be coming in the next few weeks.

She says that with each new development in Cherry’s story, the community has been extremely supportive especially after investigators discovered that Cherry’s small puppy, now named Blossom, was still in their original home.

She says the two were able to be reunited, and the 6 week old puppy is now doing well in a foster home.
