2024 Voter Registration Day

And speaking of Presidental Nominees campaigning in our area we’re just 48 days away from deciding who the next President Of The United States will be

Were turning now to reporter Baylee Wojcik who spoke with Republican and Democratic leaders in Cambria and Somerset Counties and tells us what they’re saying on this National Voter Registration Day.

Local party leaders say that no matter who you decide to vote for, it’s always important to register to vote. They say that registering is especially important this year for Pennsylvanians.

On Monday, the Secretary Of The Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania officially certified the list of candidates for the November election. Just a day later, leaders across the country celebrated National Voter Registration Day.

They say they’re reminding all community members to get out and get registered ahead of the election.

“It’s not just a right, it’s kind of an obligation. Not kind of an obligation, it is an obligation to make your choice known and make your wishes known.”

Both Paula Shively with the Somerset County Democrats and Jackie Kulback with the Cambria County Republicans say registering to vote is a simple process. They say you can do it online or visit your local election office.

“You can also do it at our Republican Headquarters, and we make no difference if someone wants to come register Independent, Democrat, Republican. We will help them get registered.”

Both say that this year’s election is an important one. While Kulback says she’s noticed an increase in people registering at the Republican Headquarters, Shively says she’s seen involvement elsewhere.

“We’ve got so many more volunteers than we’ve had before. Every day, more and more people call or come into the office and want to volunteer. We have a lot of volunteers, so that means we have a lot of contact with people.”

Shively and Kulback both add that the work doesn’t end at registration. They say it’s even more important to show up at the polls on election day, especially in a swing state like Pennsylvania.

“If you look at the Spring Primary, over 30,000 registered Republicans did not vote. That will make the difference in this Presidential Election. I look at how close the races are.
