Bishop Carroll High School Fire

A fire broke out early Thursday morning at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, originating in the physics closet, school officials said.

Maintenance workers say they noticed smoke coming from the roof, shortly after 6 a.m., and managed to contain the fire to that area, with fire extinguishers in the school, until firefighters arrived.

School officials assured the public that no chemicals were present in the physics building at the time of the incident.

Fire officials say the blaze was under control within 10 minutes of crews arriving on scene and have declared the building safe and secure for classes to proceed.

However, due to the lingering smoke odor, science classes will be relocated to other classrooms for the rest of the week, the school stated in a release.

A fire marshal is scheduled to visit the school later Thursday to investigate the cause of the fire.
