Community Reacts to Drowning Death

We have more now on the fatal drowning at the Holiday Inn in downtown Johnstown over the weekend. The Greater Johnstown School District is mourning the loss of one of its Students after he drowned on Sunday at the hotel pool. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees says 18-year-old Tahjmir Seeney was pronounced dead Tuesday morning in the Intensive Care Unit at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

The incident happened on Sunday just before noon. Lees says Seeney’s family members were staying at the Holiday Inn when he was found at the bottom of the hotel’s swimming pool. Seeney was a recent graduate from Greater Johnstown High School.

In a statement, Superintendent Dr. Amy Arcurio said in part: “Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Tahjmir. He was taken far too soon. He was a big personality and a great young man who had a bright future. He was a Welder and was to start his career [Wednesday]. At this time we respect the privacy of his family. Our School District has been and will continue to be there with our support during this very difficult time. We ask our community to keep us in your prayers.”

An Autopsy will be performed later this week, according to Lees.
