Turning now to more details about a local mining company that was set to lay off over 300 employees by this Friday. After filing for bankruptcy could of started earlier.

One of the miner’s wives is speaking out saying that Corsa coal’s layoffs began sooner than expected.

We received information from a miner’s wife that layoffs took place at around 2 pm on Monday.

Now today in an attempt to investigate

We reached out to Rosebud Mining out of Kittaning where a bidder who told us it intends to hire approximately 50 of the Corsa Coal employees

Rosebud was unable to confirm or deny whether Corsa Coal layoffs took place earlier than expected

We stopped by the Acosta Mine site to see if any employees were working today and saw little to no cars in the lot.

We also contacted Career Link of Somerset County, to see if they have initiated a rapid response service for the employees of Corsa Coal

They told us they cannot comment on the layoffs but said that they have informed Corsa Coal employees of two annual job fair in the area.

One of those fairs is to take place tomorrow in Somerset at Saint Paul’s Presbyterian Church

Pennsylvania Department Of Labor and Industry Press Secretary Danielle Woods said in a statement today

“The Department Of Labor & Industry’s rapid response team has been engaged with Wilson Creek Energy and its workers for the last two weeks, and currently has a rapid response informational meeting scheduled for April 8th at 10 Am, for the affected employees.”

Woods also says that appointments with career planners will be scheduled immediately after the rapid response informational meeting.

She also says that these efforts are a part of the Shapiro administrations goal to provide assistance to employees affected by layoffs.
