District 9 Teams Prepare for High School Football

In a couple weeks, Football is back for local High Schools. We learned how some District Nine teams are making Offseason changes. Change was abundant for many teams headed into District Nine Football this Season, but with Football returning soon, teams are focused on getting that first win.

Cameron County is coming off a 7-4 Season and with nearly the whole starting lineup on both sides returning, they have high expectations for this Season. Cameron County Wide Receiver Jake Narby saying: “We’re just well balanced. Everywhere you look we have somebody. We don’t have any weak areas really. And we’re willing to put up a fight.”

But for some teams, change is big this Offseason. Brookville comes in with a first year Head Coach that looks to improve after a 9-3 Season. The Raiders found their stride after starting last year 0-2. Brookville Head Coach Bill Morrison saying: “High school football is all about confidence and whenever you get that win or maybe that win that quote you weren’t supposed to win that confidence just snowballs and kids just take off with it.”

For Brandon Snyder in his first year with Punxsutawney, he wants to impose a strong culture with the team. Punxsutawney Head Coach Brandon Snyder saying: “Big thing, physicality. That’s number one. We wanna see everybody be physical Monday through Friday. We want to be hitting each other here in camp here make sure were physical and we’re ready to roll that first game.”

Saint Marys Chris Dworek is going into his 26th year as the Head Coach, but this year will be the first in a Co-op with Elk County. Saint Marys Head Coach Chris Dworek saying: “For me it doesn’t change at all. It’s just like getting kids that move in from another district. You treat em the same. You teach em the same. You expect the same.”

Week one is set for August 23rd – and the first game for the Saint Marys-Elk County Catholic Co-op is a showdown against Punsxsutawney
