The Somerset Borough community is mourning the loss of one of its own after former police chief Randy Cox passed away last week following a battle with cancer.
Chief Cox began his career in law enforcement in 1977 and served with the Somerset Borough Police Department for over twenty years.
“Chief Cox was completely devoted to the career as, outside of his responsibilities as Chief, he was also Lead Instructor at the Westmoreland County Community College Police Academy, Assessor for the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, Member of the Western PA Chiefs of Police Association, and President of the Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association.
Chief Cox was passionate about educating new generations of officers and sharing his knowledge & experience gained over his 47 year law enforcement career.”
Chief Cox announced his early retirement in April due to his health battle.
