Officials with the Westmoreland County coroner’s office have confirmed that the Friday afternoon crash on Haws Pike (Route 56) in Saint Claire Township was fatal.
Authorities say Robert Deemer, a 36-year-old man, from Johnstown and Gerald McGeary an 84-year-old man from Seward Borough died as a result of the crash.
According to officials, Deemer was driving a Dodge Ram and crossed the centerline, into the opposite lane of travel and struck the Chrysler 300, driven by McGeary in a head-on collision.
According to Deputy Coroner Sean Hribal, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other individuals involved in the collision were transported to a Cambria County Hospital.
According to officials, the cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma and the manner of death has been ruled accidental.
Officials say that seatbelts were not utilized by Deemer or McGeary.
According to the Westmoreland County coroner’s office, it is unknown if drugs, speed, or cell phone use were a factor in the crash.
Authorities say toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.
