Illegal Deer Shooting

Three Somerset County men have been sentenced for illegally killing at least 19 deer over a 2 month period in 2020.

Investigators say the “thrill kills” were reportedly carried out by Caleb Roland, now age 26, and two others who were juveniles at the time.

Officials say they were reportedly hunting the deer illegally at night. They suspect that up to 31 deer were killed by the trio.

According to the Pa Game Commission, the three received various sentences, including the loss of hunting privileges for up to 50 years, and fines of up to $30,000.

All three were also ordered to surrender all firearms used in the crimes.

State Wildlife Officials are encouraging individuals to report incidents of poaching and other crimes by calling the agency’s dispatch center at 1-833-pgc-hunt.
