SCI Somerset Inmate Faces Death Penalty

It was an emotional day in court for everyone involved on both sides

With the only question remaining for the jury

Does Paul Kendrick deserve to be put on death row?

Kendrick is already facing life in prison after being convicted less than two weeks ago of killing corrections officer at SCI Somerset Sergeant Mark Baserman while already serving a life sentence for murder.

A former Pittsburgh Police Investigator testified to Kendrick’s first murder conviction for an incident in 2014.

He says Kendrick and a still unidentified man shot at two people walking away after a pickup basketball game after saying they don’t like people not from that neighborhood in Pittsburgh.

Baserman’s Wife and Stepdaughter shared statements they wrote in court today speaking on their roller coaster of emotions over the seven years since Boserman’s death and asking for justice.

A Nueropsychologist that evaluated Kendrick last year also testified saying Kendrick did score average or below average on many cognitive tests

But prosecutors point out that Kendrick actually scored above average on executive functions including areas like planning reasoning problem solving and inhibition of behaviors.

Kendrick’s Mother, Sister and former baby sitter also testified

Leading to moments getting emotional reactions from Kendrick.

They testified to who he is as a person the difference he’s made in their lives and the struggles Kendrick had growing up including an abusive Father and his Half Brother’s death.
