IUP Students Reaction On Scheduled Trump Visit

A Presidential Candidate is once again making a trip to the area following the announcement Tuesday that former President Donald Trump will be in Indiana County next week on the campus of a local university.

It’s not a university sanctioned event according to officials with Indiana University of Pennsylvania, but Trump is expected to be on campus at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex for the rally.

“To me, him coming to IUP, I mean it’s an interesting choice. I think it’s cool and I’m just glad that we’ve had democrats here and republicans,”

Some democrats said it is their belief the rally may not change the election even though they recognize it will bring many Trump supporters to the Indiana area.

“Indiana County being a historically red county it makes sense that he’d come here, However, I don’t think he’s going to turn any supporters, gain any support by coming here, I think everyone in this county has already made up their minds.”

The college democrats at the university tell me they do plan to be out Monday.

Muth said there will be a protest on Monday, and he invites students and community members to join.

“Our initial reaction and my reaction was honestly, we were kind of nervous,”

One student said the Trump visit is becoming a big deal on campus.

“I know a lot of students that are probably republican that I know personally are going. I think it’ll be an interesting mix of people that’ll be here, “I kind of just want a Trump sign, but I don’t know that I’ll be able to make it as much as I want to.”

On Monday doors are expected to open at 3 p.m. with the rally starting at 7 p.m.
