The storm that swept across the area on Sunday continues to leave lasting effects.
Many residents across the region are still without power, and homes and buildings are left damaged, including a Cambria County living center that got its roof blown off.
Throughout the day on Monday, a part of 3rd Street in Nanty Glo Borough was closed because of a steel roof that brought down several powerlines and was blocking the roadway.
Officials say that roof was providing shelter to 14 people on Sunday when it was carried away by the severe wind.
The roof came off of Saint Stephen’s Assisted Living Center, which normally holds about 44 people, according to staff officials.
However, only 14 people were inside the building at the time of Sunday’s incident.
Nanty Glo Fire Chief and nearby resident Joe LaMantia says nobody in the building was injured.
Emergency officials say the 14 people did find a place to stay, some with family and others at a different facility.
The roof pulled down several powerlines and left the surrounding area of about 70 residences without power.
According to First energy, the power is expected to be restored by 11 p.m. Tuesday night.
County emergency services director Tom Davis says Sunday was a busy day for responders, as they were called to about 120 storm related incidents.
“Yesterday was probably one of the busier ones. It was quick moving but definitely had a long lasting effect on the county,”
“It came really suddenly. It probably only lasted less than a minute, 45 seconds to a minute, and we came outside to all this damage,”
Officials also remind residents to stay at least 30 feet away from any powerlines that are down and assume they are live, until proven otherwise.
