Paul Kendrick Case Update

We are also following the Paul Kendrick case the man who is already serving a life sentence was found guilty once again today in the death of Sergeant Mark Baserman.
Now the jury will reconvene tomorrow where they will decide if Kendrick receives life in prison or the death penalty.Emily Marines has more on today’s guilty verdict.I’m outside of the Somerset County Courthouse where a jury was set to deliberate today on the sentencing of Paul Kendrick.

The jury instead will reconvene tomorrow morning as they do not want to feel “pressured” to make a decision.
During the hearing today we heard a testimony from the Defense and two from the Commonwealth.

The Defense continued its arguments for why Kendrick should not be placed on death row by calling Doctor James Garbarino a Developmental Psychologist to the stand.
Doctor Garabino stated that he interviewed Kendrick in 2023 where he issued an adverse childhood experiences scale study.

In this study he states that Kendrick scored a six of ten and noted that only three percent of people answer yes to that many questions.
He testified that most people that score this high and have experienced childhood trauma are very likely to “do something harsh”

During cross examination Prosecution asked if based on his studies and experience people can make their own decisions in life.
Garabino responded yes but noted that trauma can impact those decisions.

Prosecution brought Doctor Bruce Wright a licensed Psychiatric Physician to the stand where he listed his diagnoses of Kendrick.
The primary diagnoses he noted was Antisocial Personality Disorder

He also said that based on his evaluation Kendrick has no Neurocognitive impairment to affect his decision making.
Kendrick denied testimony in the sentencing phase of this trial.

Court will re-ajurn tomorrow morning at 9 Am with closing arguments before the case is handed over to the jury
