A Cambria County Veterans Memorial has been vandalized again. Officials saying that these actions need to stop now.
They told our Stoker Wieczorek about the damages as well as how they plan to deal with this and future incidents.
Officials say people have stolen parts of the Laurel Highlands Veterans Memorial before to sell for money. But this time the vandals motive remains unclear.
Director Ronald Shawley says the Laurel Highlands Veterans Memorial Park is put in place to honor people who have served living in the area. He says this place was chosen for the display because of the rural location.
“In the summertime, when it warms up, we have veterans who come here often, who have PTSD. They want to get away from the city. They come up here for the tranquility and the peacefulness of it all.”
In previous years Shawley says people have stolen things like flagpoles, and grave markers. Incidents happening back in 2016 and 2018. He says there are reports of people dumping garbage near the memorials as well.
