Authorities in Somerset County say a Windber man is facing charges for his role in a deadly crash last year in Paint Township.
Troopers say 37-year-old Derek Clark is accused of being under the influence of alcohol when he reportedly lost control of a Pontiac G6 convertible while traveling along Horn Road last December.
According to the affidavit, emergency officials were dispatched to the crash scene, on the morning of Dec. 2, where they discovered a deceased female passenger who had reportedly been ejected during the crash.
Troopers say the woman, who was later identified as 37-year-old Aubrey Horner, suffered fatal blunt force injuries in the crash.
Police say the driver of the car, identified as Clark, and a male passenger were both transported to Conemaugh Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Investigators say Clark was allegedly driving too fast for conditions but police later ruled out weather and vehicle-related factors as a direct cause of the crash.
Authorities say a blood draw determined that Clark’s blood alcohol content was .285, which is over 3.5 times the legal limit.
Police say evidence of alcohol beverages were also found inside the vehicle.
Authorities say a crash reconstruction determined that Clark had lost control of the vehicle and while attempting to overcorrect, the car reportedly struck a ditch and overturned.
According to online court records, Clark is facing a variety of charges, including homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle and accidents involving death or injury.
Clark has not yet been arraigned.
